Legendary Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka said during an event in Novi, Mich., on Friday that he thinks the Lions are finally headed in the right direction.
“They’ve got a good, young coach,” Ditka said, according to the Detroit Free Press. They’ve got a good, young quarterback. They’ve got as good of a defensive line in football. They’ve got a hell of a receiver. They’ve got a good running back. They’ve got a got a lot things in the mix right now.”
Ditka also said that the Lions had their Week 1 game in Chicago “stolen from them” when Calvin Johnson’s apparent touchdown catch was overturned.
Perhaps the most frustrating part of the NFL’s lockout is that it’s threatening to cut into Detroit’s positive momentum — without minicamps and with a delay before the free-agency period, the Lions are on their own to keep it together for now.
But even with the extended layoff, Detroit’s gaining its fair share of backers — a list that now includes Ditka’s name.
