2011 NHL Mock Draft: Detroit Red Wings Select Jonas Brodin at No. 24

As part of our 2011 NHL Draft coverage, The Detroit Sports Site is hosting a mock draft, with all the picks made by hometown bloggers. We’ll reveal the selections one at a time leading up to the June 24 draft.

The got Nicklas Lidstrom back for one more year, but they still need to bulk up on youth for the future. They had the No. 24 selection in our , and making that pick was Sarah Lindenau of TheLeftWingLock.com.

Lindenau tabbed Swedish lefty defenseman (sound familiar?) of Farjestads BK in the Elitserien. Brodin scores the second goal in the highlights below — bonus: Narration’s in Swedish.

Lindenau breaks down the pick:

The Red Wings would be thrilled if defenseman Jonas Brodin was still available at the 24th-overall pick. While scouts have him ranked anywhere from 10-23 in this year’s draft, the 6-foot-1, 165-pound Swede is a smart and steady presence that could bolster Detroit’s aging blueline in the future.

Brodin is a strong skater and puck mover who plays a smart positional game, which he showed off last season playing for Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League.
