• The rumors appear to be true: 47-year-old ex-Red Wing goalie Dominik Hasek wants back in the NHL for one last run. “I know where I would like to play,” Hasek said, though he would not reveal the team he had in mind. But the Dominator seems set on an NHL return. — Toronto Sun
• While you were enjoying your Memorial Day weekend, the Detroit Red Wings’ brass, including GM Ken Holland and coach Mike Babcock, were meeting to discuss the team’s offseason plans. Free agency kicks off on July 1, but the Wings have decisions to make before that on several players, including restricted free agents Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Kyle Quincey. — Free Press
• News broke a couple weeks back that Mike Ilitch had hired an architectural firm to begin exploring designs for a new Red Wings arena downtown. However, a possible major glitch in those plans looms on the horizon in the form of an NHL lockout. — Crain’s Detroit Business
• Tomas Jurco is one of the young players that the Red Wings are counting on to form their nucleus of guys going forward. Detroit assistant GM Jim Nill is high on Jurco’s potential, too. “He’s got the tools,” Nill said. — Free Press
