Magglio Ordonez Retires During Ceremony at Comerica Park (Video)

The paid tribute to prior to Sunday’s game with the New York Yankees. Ordonez officially announced his retirement from baseball this week after 15 stellar seasons.

With Ordonez’s family present at Comerica Park, along with Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski, manager Jim Leyland, Al Kaline, and owner Mike and his wife, Marian, the Tigers hosted a 20-minute long ceremony that included the unveiling of a painting commemorating Ordonez’s 2006 ALCS-clinching home run.

After Tigers radio play-by-play man Dan Dickerson opened the ceremony with a few comments and a tribute video aired on the scoreboard, Ordonez walked in, fittingly, from right field. The large crowd at Comerica Park greeted him with a raucous standing ovation.
