Here’s all the latest offseason news and information from around the web for the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, July 27
- Alexander Semin officially isn’t coming to Detroit. The foreward signed a one year, $7 million dollar deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, effectively taking him off the market. —Detroit Free Press
Shane Doan’s probably not be coming to Detroit, either. Former Red Wing turned TSN analyst Aaron Ward tweeted last night that Doan’s asking price was “too high” for Detroit. No meeting with the Red Wings has been scheduled despite Ken Holland’s desire for a face to face. What’s going on? —Mlive
Harkening back to the days when the Red Wings actually signed free agents and made offseason moves, Scotty Bowman and Barry Smith will be coaching Detroit’s alumni roster in the Winter Classic. Sadly, the alumni game might just be getting more compelling than the actual game that counts. —Detroit Free Press
Continuing the theme of subtraction instead of meaningful addition, Fabian Brunnstrom signed a contract and will play in Sweden next season. The funniest part of Chuck Pleiness’s article? Holland says “they’re exploring the market.” Ha! —The News Herald
This seems like a nice place to leave things. With all the free agent frustration and panic crippling Detroit this offseason, Winging It In Motown’s Graham Hathway (who’s also a friend of The Detroit Sports Site) wrote a piece from the perspective of the fans. Mr. Holland would be well advised to listen to his words just a bit. —Detroit Free Press
