The Detroit Lions continue to have health issues in the secondary — Chris Houston and Louis Delmas sat out Week 1, and Bill Bentley exited the win over the Rams with a concussion. So it’s no big surprise to hear that the Lions worked out several free agent defensive backs this week.
NFL insider Adam Caplan reported Wednesday that Detroit hosted six DBs, four cornerbacks and two safeties:
Lions worked out a bunch of CBs yesterday including Byron Westbrook, David Jones, Morgan Trent, and Syd’Quan Thompson.

Safeties Derrick Martin and Tyrell Johnson also worked out for the Lions.

The most familiar name among that group for local football fans belongs to Trent, who played for Michigan from 2004-08 and then was a sixth-round pick at the 2009 draft. Trent has bounced around in his NFL career, spending time with the Bengals (the team that drafted him), Colts, Jaguars and Redskins.
Martin is the most experienced of the group, with 61 NFL games under his belt. Thompson was a 2010 draft pick of Denver and showed some promise in his rookie season, but he tore his ACL and missed all of 2011.
