Pavel Datsyuk sported a different jersey Monday, but he was up to his old tricks in his first game with CSKA Moscow of the KHL. Datsyuk fired three shots on goal and won 12 of 22 faceoffs in his debut with the Russian league team, a 1-0 win over Avangard Omsk.
But Datsyuk’s best highlight from the game occurred on a disallowed goal, as he headed a rebound into the net:
You’re not allowed to head the puck into the net in the KHL — or the NHL, for that matter; Datsyuk tried a similar trick during a playoff game a couple years back, only to come up empty on the header attempt.
It’s a fun highlight, for sure, but for Red Wings’ fans, it may simply add to the heartache of not having the NHL around.
