Daniel Alfredsson to Make Detroit Red Wings Home Debut on Friday Night vs. Maple Leafs

Some positive injury news for the ahead of next week’s season opener: will make his home preseason debut Friday night against Toronto, in the team’s penultimate exhibition contest. Detroit wraps the preseason Saturday back in Toronto.

The 40-year-old Alfredsson, Detroit’s big pickup this offseason, has been nursing a sore groin through training camp. He likely will be back out of the lineup Saturday night, though the Wings expect him to play in Wednesday’s season opener at the Joe, against the Sabres.

Defenseman , who tweaked his knee in the Wings’ 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, will not suit up Friday night. Detroit still hopes to have him ready for Game 1 of the regular season.
